The Wild Horse and Burro Sanctuary Alliance (WHSBA) is a coalition founded in a collaborative effort by Return to Freedom, Black Hills Wild Horse Sanctuary, Lifesavers Wild Horse Rescue, and Habitat for Horses.
Sanctuaries are a vital component to providing a lifetime of feed and care for the animals, and also serve the local and national community with experiential education through tours, programs, and events.
Once the animals are rescued, whether from a feedlot, a failed adoption, abuse, or a relocation from a roundup, the work just begins. A lifetime of care for wild horses and burros can be up to 30 years or more per equine. With emergencies constantly needing attention across social media, yesterday’s emergencies are often forgotten and yet the sanctuaries continue to need help to do their lifesaving work.
The Alliance has been created to provide support to wild horse and burro sanctuaries. Whether funds are desperately needed to provide emergency feed, create safe emergency handling equipment for wild horses, transport, or emergency veterinary care, all donations to the Alliance go directly to those life-saving needs.
In addition to helping with support for emergency needs, the Alliance, with more than 60 years of the combined experience of wild horse sanctuary veterans, will help with management concerns, suggestions addressing fundraising, marketing, volunteer programs, and a host of other issues that arise on a daily basis when operating a sanctuary for wild equines.
